Video Resume
Preparation
JTL Services, Inc. focuses on
candidate promotion. With the
increasing use of video resumes,
we have decided to include a
short video clip of our
candidates to our clients. The
latest research reveals that
using a video resume can help
with the recruiting process.
Remember the first impression is
extremely important in the
hiring process.
Note: If we are helping
create the video for you in one
of our offices, please allow
yourself approximately 10 added
minutes to our interview
processing on your visit to JTL.
Like your resume, your video
will only be sent with your
permission. It will only be sent
to a client that we have spoken
to you about and that you have
been cleared for. When we do
send a client a candidate video
it is on a private URL web
address where a user name and
password are required.
How a Video Resume Can Help
It's important to keep in mind
that a video resume isn't going
to get you a job. And don't
expect your video resume to
replace your traditional resume.
However, it can assist you in
marketing yourself to
prospective employers - if it's
done right. Done poorly, it can,
at best, hinder your chances of
getting an interview. That is
why we want to prepare you
before helping you create a
video resume. Following our tips
in this document will help. But
we will also help you while you
are here creating the video with
us.
Tips to Help You Prepare a
Professional Video Resume:
-
Keep your video resume
short: we aim to create a
video less than one minute
in length.
-
Dress to impress
professionally in business
attire, just as if you were
going to an in-person
interview.
-
Look at the camera not at
the desk or table below you.
Eye contact like on an
interview is important.
-
Speak naturally.
-
Make sure there isn't any
background noise and that
the wall behind you isn't
too busy.
-
Practice what you're going
to say ahead of time.
-
Start by mentioning your
name (first and last).
-
State your educational
background, including
university and major. If you
graduated with honors or a
high GPA, you should say so.
("I graduated from the
University of Texas at
Austin in 2003 cum laude,
with a political science
major.")
-
Discuss briefly your work
history: (“After graduation
I worked 4 years with a
public accounting firm…”)
-
Focus on your professional
endeavors, not your personal
ones.
-
Discuss 2 to 3 strong suits
about yourself.
(Professionally)
-
Finish by saying “Thank you
so much for your time”.
REMEMBER THAT THIS
